This Winter 2015 issue of CW360, a publication developed by the Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare at the University of Minnesota School of Social Work, highlights Culturally Responsive Child Welfare Practice. Anita Fineday wrote a piece on Customary Adoption at White Earth Nation (pgs. 28-29). Anita Fineday began as chief judge at the White Earth tribal court in 1997. She talks about her experiences writing child welfare code that encompassed messages from their tribal elders, and created something called a “suspension of parental rights” and customary adoption guidelines and contracts.
