This Winter 2015 issue of CW360, a publication developed by the Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare at the University of Minnesota School of Social Work, highlights Culturally Responsive Child Welfare Practice. Anita Fineday wrote a piece on Customary Adoption at White Earth Nation (pgs. 28-29). Anita Fineday began as chief judge at the ¬†White Earth tribal court in 1997. She talks about her experiences writing child welfare code that encompassed messages from their tribal elders, and created something called a “suspension of parental rights” and customary adoption guidelines and contracts.
