The Capacity Building Center for Tribes presents a unique opportunity to learn from the experiences of the Maine Wabanaki-State Child Welfare Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the nation’s first to address child welfare and native people. These two brief videos can help tribal child welfare organizations gain a deeper understanding of how a truth commission process can promote healing and lasting change. In this video, “Answer to Prayer: Creating a Truth Commission Process”, members of the Commission and their staff describe ways to successfully develop structures and processes for the engagement of community members in this truth-telling process, thus developing best child welfare practice.
