This study examines the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and disproportionate representation of native children in foster care. The results reveal the diversity of American Indian people seen throughout the United States, as well as in the state of Alabama. The study concludes with a discussion of the contributions and limitations of ICWA and calls for expanded services to serve all American Indian populations in the United States, and not just those from federally recognized tribes.
