Defining child welfare success from a Tribal perspective.
tribal Child Welfare Leadership Academy
The Academy’s curriculum addresses the unique challenges faced by tribal child welfare leaders. A team of tribal child welfare professionals, leaders, elders, and community members worked together to develop the Academy’s content and delivery style.
Academy goals
Knowledge & support to promote child welfare success
The overall goal of the academy is to enhance the skills and abilities of tribal child welfare leaders to support their workforce and improve outcomes for Native children and families. The Academy defines child welfare success from a tribal perspective and focuses on leading in four areas:
- Leading in Context – building communities
- Leading People – workforce development
- Leading Change – goal setting
- Leading for Results – accountability
Improving Outcomes
Academy Steps
Academy participants are guided through learning components that promote critical thinking and reflection. They are supported as they apply their learning to the job and carry out an organizational change project that will support the program in which they work. Participants will also receive individualized coaching that guides them to successfully lead their programs from a tribal perspective.
Preparing to Successfully Lead
Academy components
The Academy consists of a variety of learning components that work together to prepare tribal leaders to effectively lead in tribal child welfare. These supports ensure participant readiness, promote critical thinking and reflection, support the transfer of learning, and facilitate successful organizational change. We recommend implementing all learning components for the best results.
